Negros Island records 124 fireworks-related injuries on New Year’s Eve

The Department of Health (DOH) reported 124 fireworks-related injuries in the Negros Island Region as of January 5, 2025.

Negros Occidental recorded the highest number of cases with 86, followed by Bacolod City with 20, Negros Oriental with 16, and Siquijor with 2.

The majority of injuries were blast and burn injuries without amputation (82 cases). Eye injuries accounted for 34 cases, and five cases involved blast and burn injuries with amputation.

Triangle fireworks were the leading cause of injuries with 25 cases, followed by 19 cases from unknown fireworks and 17 from kwitis. Other fireworks that caused injuries include 5-star, boga, whistle bomb, candle bomb, bilong-bilong, kamara, sparklers, luces, combination of fireworks powder, flying tiger, super lolo, katay, and pla-pla.
