NegOcc signs MOA with PCIC for crop insurance

The Provincial Government of Negros Occidental (PGNO) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) for the insurance coverage of all agri-fishery projects and programs of the province for 2023 onward.

The MOA was signed by Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and PCIC President Atty. Jovy Bernabe on May 26, 2023, at the Governor’s Office, Provincial Capitol, Bacolod City.

The agreement provides an additional P5 million for crop insurance for the crop year 2023 covering all agri-fishery projects, specifically rice, corn, and high-value crops.

The PCIC has been providing insurance protection to all agricultural and fishery programs of the government including its farmers and fishermen for loss and damages due to pests, infestations, and the impact of weather and climate change.

The provincial government initially provided a crop insurance program for Negrense rice farmers under the Negros First Universal Crop Insurance Program (NFUCIP) which assisted farmers recover from losses arising from natural calamities, pests, and diseases.

The signing of the MOA was witnessed by Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, Provincial Agriculturist Dr. Edmundo Raul Causing, and OIC Provincial Budget Officer Gemma Rose Flores.
