The province of Negros Occidental has recorded a significant surge in Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) cases, with a total of 828 reported from January 1 to June 2025.

This figure represents a 246.44% increase compared to the 239 cases tallied during the same period last year, according to data from the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

The majority of those affected by HFMD are individuals aged 0 to 36, with the highest concentration among children aged 1 to 10 years old.

The cities and towns most impacted by the outbreak include Bago, Cadiz, Victorias, La Carlota, Talisay, Kabankalan, and the municipalities of Cauayan, Pulupandan, Manapla, and Don Salvador Benedicto.

Health authorities continue to urge the public to practice diligent handwashing, avoid areas experiencing outbreaks, and maintain proper hygiene practices to prevent the further spread of the disease. This includes regular disinfection of frequently touched surfaces and ensuring children practice good hand hygiene. Health officials also advise isolation for those with symptoms until their fever subsides and blisters heal.
