One of the five high-profile inmates who escaped at the Negros Occidental District Jail in Bago City the other way was shot and killed by joint operatives of Murcia Police Station and officers from NODJ in a hot pursuit operations in Hacienda Velez in Barangay Blumentritt, Murcia, this morning, June 30.
In an interview over dyEZ Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod, BJMP Regional Office spokesperson, Jail Chief Inspector Jairus Anthony Dojillo, identified the fatality as Marvin Celeste. The victim is facing charges for illegal possession of firearms.
Dojillo said a firefight ensued causing the death of Celeste while the others fled in different directions of the vast sugarcane field, but operatives was able to recapture Daniel Tamon.
A hot pursuit operation is still ongoing against Francisco Epogon, a member of the notorious Epogon robbery group who was behind the killing of a Belgian national, who fought against them, at Villa Angela Subdivision in Bacolod City in 2019.
Also at large are Danilo Celeste who is facing carnapping, robbery, illegal possession of firearms, and attempted homicide charges; and Alejandro Montoya who has cases for carnapping, robbery, illegal possession of firearms, attempted homicide, and acts of lasciviousness.
The fugitives were able to escape by cutting the 20mm steel bars of the jail dormitory between midnight and 2 o’clock in the morning and made an improvised rope by using clothes and blankets to scale the high fence of the jail compound. The incident was only discovered by roving jail personnel early morning of June 29.
