Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez has recalled an announcement posted on his official Facebook page on on the strict enforcement of wearing facemasks in indoor areas.

The move comes after confusion and questions arose about the scope of the mandate, particularly whether it would be implemented in areas under Alert Level 1.

Instead of implementing EO 33 that covers the mandatory use of face mask indoors, Benitez on his official FB page clarified that strict implementation of facemask will only be enforced in public transportation.

In his press conference yesterday, April 24, Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez pushed for the strict enforcement of wearing facemasks in public transportation as a deterrent against the spread of COVID-19 in the city.

The mayor’s reiteration came as a response to the rising COVID-19 cases in the city.

According to the Department of Health Western Visayas report last Sunday, Bacolod City has 74 active COVID-19 cases, with 2 deaths while Negros Occidental has 299 active cases – the second-highest in Western Visayas.

He emphasized the importance of observing minimum health protocols even though Bacolod remains under COVID-19 Alert Level 1.
