Mayor Richard Jaojoco has ordered the cancellation of classes in all levels in Toboso, Negros Occidental, for Tuesday, October 7, following a series of five earthquakes that rattled the town on Monday night.

The mayor announced the suspension as a precautionary measure due to continuous ground movement.

The ongoing athletic meet in the municipality has also been postponed.

The earthquake swarm began late Monday evening, with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) confirming multiple seismic events:

  • A Magnitude 1.5 quake at 7:55 p.m.
  • Two Magnitude 3.4 quakes at 7:56 p.m. and 8:05 p.m.
  • A Magnitude 2.3 quake at 8:18 p.m.
  • A Magnitude 1.9 quake at 10:31 p.m.

Mayor Jaojoco noted that while residents felt the tremors, the intensity was minor compared to the significant earthquake that shook Toboso and Cebu on September 30.

The mayor confirmed that no damage was immediately recorded from the latest quakes.
