The MassKara Festival street dance competition route in Bacolod City has been shortened to Araneta Street only, starting at the Bacolod City Government Center replica at the public plaza, to prevent performers from fainting due to extreme heat.

This was announced by Bacolod Yuhum Foundation spokesperson Mate Espina on Wednesday, October 4, following a suggestion from Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez.

MassKara organizers has to scrap the plan to have the parade route start at SM City Bacolod in reclamation area. SM is one of the major sponsors for this year’s festivities.

Dancers will now assemble at the Bacolod City Government Center replica in Bacolod City Public Plaza.

Espina said that the revised plan must go through the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod for review, and once approved, the festival organizers will make an announcement about the rerouting plans.

The next session is happening a week before the main highlights of the festival.

Meanwhile, the re-routing of jeepneys passing through the Bacolod Public Plaza will begin on October 7 in time for the opening of the festival.
