President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. released P95 million in immediate financial assistance from the Office of the President for the recovery of Negros Occidental, after he personally visited two of the towns worst-hit by Typhoon Tino.
Of the P95 million assistance, P50M went to the provincial governmetn, P10M each for the towns of La Castellana, Moises Padilla and La Carlota City. While the towns of Binalbagan, Isabela and Hinigiran got P5 million each.
Lacson emphasized that the President’s visit along with his cabinet secretaries shows their concern for the province and that they are doing everything to be able to fund the recovery of the province.
Marcos who visited the town of Moises Padilla and La Castellana also received a detailed briefing from the local government on the extent of damage.
In Moises Padilla, he visited the Jose Pepito Montilla Garcia Sr. National High School, where several classrooms were submerged by floodwaters. He also went to Barangay Poblacion 1 to meet residents and assess damaged houses.
He later proceeded to La Castellana to visit evacuees housed at La Castellana Elementary School.
Lacson informed the president that a total of 806,000 individuals were affected by the typhoon, with a total of 13,036 houses destroyed, and 105,936 were damage.
Damage to agriculture and school facilities reached P1.85 billion, the governor told the president.
The President assured the victims that the national government will continuously help them in their present situation, according to Lacson.
The briefing was attended by Cabinet members from the Department of Energy, the Department of Education, the Department of Health, the Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD).
The president was also informed that Moises Padilla and La Castellana suffered the most casualties in the province with 27 fatalities and 32 still missing.
