The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB)-Western Visayas dismissed a petition for a P250 daily wage increase for private-sector workers in Region 6 and Negros Occidental.

The proposal that was filed by United Panay Labor Alliance was dismissed by the board based on technicalities, said Wennie Sancho, the secretary general of General Alliance of Workers Associations (GAWA).
While Negros Occidental is now part of the newly established Negros Island Region, workers in the province still relies on the wage order for Region 6 as no separate wage board has been established yet for NIR.
For the labor group the decision to dismissed the proposal based on technicalities is an injustice to minimum wage earners as the merit of the petition was not even evaluated.
Following the implementation of Wage Order No. RBVI-27, the daily minimum wage in Western Visayas is set at P513.00 for non-agricultural, industrial, and commercial establishments employing more than 10 workers, while micro-establishments with 10 workers or fewer are mandated to pay ₱485.00 per day.
Meanwhile, a daily minimum wage of P480.00 applies to all agricultural workers across the region.
