Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island registered a minor ash emission on Sunday morning, October 5, an activity that the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) attributes to ongoing unrest.
The weak ash emission occurred at 8:23 a.m., generating grayish plumes that rose approximately 500 meters above the summit crater before drifting to the southwest.
Phivolcs’ latest monitoring data shows heightened activity at the volcano. From 12 a.m. Saturday to 12 a.m. Sunday, Kanlaon recorded 63 volcanic earthquakes and emitted a high volume of 1,638 tons of sulfur dioxide (SO2).
