The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) has been tapped to investigate the alleged pre-war tunnel discovered in Barangay 39, Bacolod City.

The call for an investigation was made by the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod through a resolution authored by Councilor Jason Isidro Villarosa.

The discovery of the tunnel has caught the attention of the public, prompting the SP to request the NHCP to investigate the matter. The resolution stated that the NHCP may find the discovery relevant to its purpose/s, and that the commission’s interest in the matter would be greatly appreciated.

The councilor also requested the NHCP to investigate whether the matter discovered was a pre-war tunnel or an oven for preparing muscovado.

In addition to the alleged tunnel, a skeleton believed to be that of a horse was also discovered by the excavating team. The discovery of the horse’s remains has sparked further interest in the area and the possibility that more historical artifacts may be buried beneath.

Villarosa said that due to concerns for safety and preservation, the Department of Public Works has temporarily covered the excavated area.
