Manokan Country lovers, both local and tourists, will continue to enjoy the flavorful grilled chicken (inasal) at its current location after Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez has granted the re-opening of the stall along Fr. Ferero Street, yesterday, July 17.

Just a day after the local government cordoned off the spot, Benitez reached a compromise with stall owners, allowing them to resume operations until August 19.

The decision to re-open the stalls was arrived after a dialogue between the Mayor and 24 stall owners at his office.

Bacolod Mayor Albee Benitez led the dialogue with Manokan stall owners where they agreed to move to their temporary location by August 19.

Councilor Celia Flor, chairperson of the Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Markets and Slaughterhouse said the tenants submitted written confirmation of their intent to relocate at the SM City parking lot across the street once it is ready.

The city will assist tenants in expediting the transfer of utilities like water and electricity, she added.

However, only those who settle their outstanding balances with the city will be allowed to move. Flor said that the city treasurer’s office will reassess these outstanding fees, including the possibility of waiving penalties.

After August 19, Manokan Country will be closed for construction as SM Prime Holdings Inc. begins building a new establishment on the site.
