[UPDATED, 2/17]– A massive fire has hit a residential area in Purok Magti-ayon, Barangay 10, Bacolod City, and destructed homes, mostly made of light materials.

The fire broke out before lunch on February 16, and quickly spread throughout the densely populated area, leaving 100 individuals homeless.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) which is just adjacent to the fire scene immediately dispatched fire trucks to contain the blaze, but strong winds and the narrow path leading to the fire scene made it challenging for the fire responders to penetrate and control it.

Some responders from BFP, Chamber and Amity were even compelled to cross a creek to navigate the fire scene.

Chief Inspector Rodel Legaspi, Bacolod fire marshal said firefighters were able to put off the blaze after an hour but by that time 21 houses were already destroyed and 10 others were damaged. The BFP placed the estimated damages at P155,000.

According to Brgy. Captain Melvin Bravo the Bacolod Arts, Youth & Sports Center along San Juan Street will serve as the temporary shelter for the affected families.
