A tragic incident fueled by jealousy led to the death of a Bacolod police officer at the hands of an Iloilo-based cop on Friday, May 31.
The incident occurred at the Camella Subdivision in Barangay Tangub around 5 p.m., according to a police report.
PMaj. Eugene Tolentino, chief of Police Station 8, said that jealousy is being considered as the primary motive for the killing.
The victim who was identified as SSgt. Jotham Arrem Cañete Tuto, 31, is a member of the Mobile Patrol Unit of the Bacolod City Police Office and a resident of Crossing Agustin, Barangay Paraiso, Sagay City.
He was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital after sustaining 2 fatal shots.
The suspect, identified as Pat. Alvin Fernandez Rios, 26, is assigned to the 1st Mobile Force Company of the Iloilo Provincial Police Office.
The harrowing event unfolded inside the bedroom of a house that once belonged to Rios and his former live-in partner.
According to the police, Rios had gone to the house to visit his six-month-old son. But upon entering the bedroom, he found his former partner with Tuto, which led him to commit the crime.
Rios was immediately arrested and is now in custody, facing serious charges for the fatal shooting.
Recovered from the crime scene were a 9mm pistol, two fired cartridges, and four magazines with live ammunition.
