The Davao City government has allocated P300,000 in cash assistance to the Municipality of La Castellana, Negros Occidental, which was placed under a state of calamity following the eruption of Kanlaon volcano.

Councilor Myrna Dalodo-Ortiz, chairperson of the Committee on Finance, Ways, and Means, said the assistance was approved during the city’s council session last March 11.

The P300,000 aid aligns with the guidelines set by Local Finance Committee Resolution 2020-01, which outlines financial assistance rates for calamity-stricken areas.

The Davao City Council approved the resolution and ordinance, empowering Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte to allocate a portion of the 30 percent QRF from the city’s 5% Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund for 2025.

Negros Occidental had previously declared a state of calamity on December 9, 2024, following the Kanlaon volcano eruption, which displaced numerous residents. The eruption affected several areas, including Bago City, La Carlota City, and the municipalities of La Castellana, Moises Padilla, Pontevedra, Valladolid, San Enrique, Hinigaran, and Binalbagan, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC).

The Davao City Council had previously approved P3.8 million in calamity assistance on January 28, 2025, for heavily affected areas in Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, including Canlaon City, La Carlota City, Bago City, and the Municipality of Vallehermoso. However, La Castellana was not included in that earlier allocation.
