COVID-19 patient in ambulance accident dies

The 78-year-old retired police who was being rushed to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital when the ambulance ferrying him figured in a fatal accident, died.

Mayor Pedro Zayco of Kabankalan confirmed that the retired officer died while being treated in the hospital. He, however, clarified that the patient that died of his illness, and not because of the accident. He was a COVID-19 positive.

The patient was first brought at South Bacolod General Hospital but was rushed to the regional hospital when the ambulance figured in an accident along San Sebastian- Lacson Streets.

The ambulance driver was declared dead on arrival, while the retired police, a nurse and an auxiliary personnel sustained injuiries.

Based on the traffic narratives, the ambulance was going north when a sports utility vehicle slammed on its side, resulting for the driver to lost his control and swerved out of his way and hit a catering truck on the opposite side of the lane.
