Canlaon City has made the difficult decision to cancel its 57th Charter Day Anniversary celebrations originally planned for July 1st. This comes as the city continues to recover from the recent eruption of Mount Kanlaon Volcano, which remains at Alert Level 2.

Mayor Jose Chubasco Cardenas explained that the city’s priority lies in ensuring the well-being of its residents. Festivities would be inappropriate while the city prepares for a potential worst-case scenario and seeks national government assistance.

Instead of celebrating with traditional activities, Canlaon City will focus on providing relief and support to those affected by the eruption.

This includes cash assistance for over 5,000 vegetable and livestock farmers, along with 3,226 rice farmers. Thankfully, all residents who were previously evacuated have now returned home.
