Bago City has unveiled a new attraction within Bantayan Park, emphasizing conservation alongside creative economic growth.

The P1.2 million Mangrove Creative Trail and Arts Center, located in Barangay Poblacion, was formally opened by Mayor Nicholas Yulo and Vice Mayor Ramon Torres on March 17.

This project is a collaborative effort between the City Government’s Local Economic Development and Investments Promotions Office (LEDIPO) and City Environment Management Office (CEMO), in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry – Negros Occidental. It is also part of DTI’s Dagyaw Lunsod Lunsad Program, which aims to drive socio-economic development through the creative sector while recognizing the ecological importance of Bago City’s mangrove ecosystems.

Although still undergoing final touches, the mangrove ecotrail is expected to offer a glimpse into Bago City’s commitment to environmental conservation, according to LEDIPO Head Judee Lynn Lirazan.

Beyond fostering the creative industry through training in digital, culinary, and theater arts, the project prioritizes environmental conservation. The mangrove trail serves as an educational tool, raising awareness about the crucial role these ecosystems play in coastal protection and biodiversity. By positioning the trail as a tourist attraction, Bago City aims to draw visitors while simultaneously promoting responsible environmental practices, Lirazan added.

“The project envisions providing a dynamic platform for local artists and businesses to thrive, while simultaneously promoting environmental conservation,” local officials stated. The expected impact includes not only cultural enrichment and economic growth but also a strengthened commitment to environmental preservation, the local government added.

DTI-Negros Occidental Provincial Director Lynna Cardinal praised the city’s innovative approach, recognizing the vital role of creative arts in fostering a vibrant community and a healthy ecosystem. The mangrove trail is expected to attract eco-conscious tourists, further bolstering the city’s sustainable tourism efforts.
