Bacolod City, Negros Occidental— In view of the high death rate due to COVID and with most of fatalities are unvaccinated individuals, the local government of Bacolod City said it has official open the vaccination drive against COVID-19 to the general public.

Everyone now a ‘top priority’, the Emergency Operations Center said in a statement.

It added that Bacolod resident aged 18 and above qualified to receive jabs regardless of their priority groups can now avail of the free vaccine in various vaccination sites around the city, including in SM and Ayala malls. The vaccination at the 2 big malls will run until October 17.

“Both mall-based vaccination centers will no longer have days off this week. We have to vaccinate every qualified Bacolodnon who is willing to get vaccinated,” the task force said in a statement.

Record from the EOC showed that a total of 168 COVID-19 deaths were recorded in September, and 140 of the fatalities were unvaccinated. Only 28 were vaccinated.

Recent studies show that people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 continue to have strong protection compared to those who are not.

The city government, through the EOC-TF and the CoVaC, is encouraging Bacolod residents to get vaccinated, with the goal of achieving herd immunity.
