The Bacolod City government demonstrated its commitment to environmental sustainability by leading the Earth Hour 2025 event on March 22at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds.

Organized by the Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO), the event drew an estimated 2,000 attendees, signaling a strong community dedication to climate action.

BENRO Officer-In-Charge Ma. Fe Trespuentes and Bacolod City Climate and Environment Council Vice Chairperson, Councilor Kalaw Puentevella, spearheaded the gathering, which was further bolstered by the participation of numerous organizations, including the Negrosanon Initiative for Climate and the Environment, Youth Empowering Youth Initiative, and Sagup Negros.

The event focused on advocating for environmental protection, energy efficiency, and conservation, all critical components of combating climate change.

This initiative is backed by City Ordinance No. 1076, series of 2024, which established the Bacolod City Climate and Environment Council. The council is tasked with protecting, conserving, and managing the city’s natural resources to mitigate the effects of climate change.

Bacolod’s leading malls also joined the movement.

SM City Bacolod participated in #SMEarthHour2025 by switching off its lights and actively raising awareness about planetary conservation. The mall also offered a unique “Dining in the Dark” experience, allowing diners to show solidarity with the Earth.

Adding layer to the event, were soulful performances from Adventist World Radio, Adventist Academy Bacolod, Bacolod Adventist Church Youth, and Central Philippine Adventist College – Academy that resonated throughout the night, blending music with a message of environmental responsibility.

Robinsons Place Bacolod also dimmed its lights for an hour, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability. Mall-goers enjoyed live music from 6 Strings Attached Acoustic at the West Entrance, creating a memorable and environmentally conscious atmosphere.
