Bacolod City’s lone district congressman, Greg Gasataya, has publicly responded to an anonymous Facebook post that he perceives as a veiled threat against his life, stating that he is taking the matter seriously.

In a statement released on February 8, Gasataya emphasized that threats and intimidation have no place in a democratic society. “I take such actions seriously—not only as a public servant but also as someone who values life and the well-being of my family and loved ones,” he stated.

The congressman, who is serving his final term and is seeking to run for mayor in the upcoming May elections, strongly condemned what he described as “desperate political tactics” and reaffirmed his commitment to serving the city with diligence and integrity, refusing to be distracted by such threats.

He reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards violence in any form—whether physical, verbal, or psychological.

Gasataya recalled the commitment made by candidates during their Comelec filing to conduct a violence-free election.

He appealed to the community to remain vigilant and to speak out against any form of threat or intimidation, urging citizens not to allow such “despicable acts and behaviors” to disrupt the hard-earned peace of Bacolod City.

Gasataya is running against Bacolod’s outgoing vice mayor, Elcid Familiaran. The vice mayor has categorically denied that the threat originated from his camp, stating that the supporters are uncontrollable and that he has no idea who is posting such messages.
