Aid comes in various forms and political hues, as politicians rushed to help fire victims in Brgy. Singcang-Airport, yesterday, April 27.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia personally checked on the fire victims in Brgy. Singcang last night, April 27 together with Vice Mayor Elcid Familiaran.

The mayor’s visit comes after former Cong. Albee Benitez paid a visit to the fire victims and gave out cash assistance of P5,000 to each family.

Benitez who transferred his voting rights to Bacolod last Monday, made a visit to the fire victims on the morning of April 27, together with his political ally Abang Lingkod partylist representative Stephen Paduano.

Their visit coincided with that of Cong. Greg Gasataya who distributed 300 packed meals during the first night of the evacuees in JR Torres Elementary School.

In photos released by some allies of Benitez, Gasataya who wore a black t-shirt as opposed to the billionaire’s plain white shirt, was seen in a discussion with the former congressman who pledged to send more aid to the fire victims.

But while the visit from Leonardia come late, the public information office of Bacolod in a post said: “When the fire broke out yesterday afternoon (April 26), Leonardia immediately ordered the DRRMO and DSSD to attend to the needs of the affected families, such as providing them food packs, tents, hygiene kits, and other supplies.”

The city government is also preparing the financial assistance for them, the statement added.

A total of 45 houses were destroyed and 10 houses were damaged in the fire. Per the latest inventory of Brgy. Capt. Rosinie Distrito a total of 65 families were affected, and left 253 individuals homeless.
