Aboitiz Power is set to develop a 500-megawatt solar farm in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental, with construction expected to begin by early 2026, outgoing Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. announced.

San Carlos Sun Power Inc. (SacaSun) is AboitizPower’s first solar power plant venture, operating with a 59 MWp utility-scale solar photovoltaic facility in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental. The Php3.8-billion plant is also AboitizPower’s 29th renewable energy facility overall.

Escalante revealed that the company has acquired land in Barangays Luna and Mabini for the project.

This new development is projected to generate P20 to P40 billion in economic activity for Cadiz City. The city is already a significant hub for solar energy, currently home to the 132.5 MW Helios Solar Power Plant, one of Southeast Asia’s largest.

Additionally, the SM Group of Companies’ 120-megawatt solar farm in Cadiz City is expected to be operational within the year.

Once Aboitiz Power’s project is completed, Cadiz City will further solidify Negros Occidental’s position as a leader in solar power generation. Negros Occidental currently accounts for 69 percent of the Visayas grid’s solar capacity, with 264 MW already in operation.
