A total of 45 units of JMC Co-star N6 Modern public utility jeepneys were turned over Saturday, September 10, to jeepney operators servicing Bata-Libertad and Alijis-Central Market routes.
In a statement, JMC-Bacolod, the supplier of the new jeepneys, said that the modern jeepneys will start plying the streets of Bacolod City today, September 12.
The modern jeepneys are part of the jeepney modernization program of the Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board.
Operated by MJ and Uy Transport Services, Inc., the modern jeepneys are equipped with accessories as required by the LTFRB, such as CCTVs, dashcam, GPS tracking system, LED destination signs and automated fare collection system.
It is also equipped with an automatic doors also face the sidewalk for safe and convenient entry and exit of passengers.
Meanwhile, Peoples Jeep that operates the modern jeepneys in Cebu said that it has also turned over 2 modern jeepneys to Bacolod operator last week and is set to provide 60 additional jeepneys. Initially, it will cover Fortunetowne-Central Market route.
It hopes to turn over the additional jeepneys before the LTFRB phases out the old jeepneys, the cooperative said in a statement.
Previously, Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez asked LTFRB not to apprehend old jeepneys pending his request to extend the operation of old jeepneys until March 31, 2023.
