The much-awaited upgrade of the Bacolod-Silay Airport passenger terminal is progressing smoothly after the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) awarded the P41.8 million contract to Humming Bird Construction & Supply Corporation for the rehabilitation and improvement project.
The upgrade, which has a budget of nearly P45 million, includes the replacement of roofing sheets, ceiling panels, tiles, and various aspects of the passenger terminal. This is in line with the CAAP’s goal to enhance the overall passenger experience and improve the airport’s infrastructure.
Nearly a year ago, CAAP Director General Captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo conducted an ocular inspection at the airport where he was dismayed at the current state. Back then, Tamayo strictly ordered airport staff to improve the facility’s security measures and ensure that its equipment is maintained.
The project is expected to be completed within one year, although specific timelines have not been released. Once finished, the upgraded Bacolod-Silay Airport will provide a more comfortable and efficient travel experience for both local residents and tourists visiting the region.
