The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Sunday, March 30, confirmed that four Filipino citizens remain unaccounted for following the powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake that ravaged parts of Myanmar.

The confirmation comes as search and rescue operations continue amidst the widespread devastation.

Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo de Vega said that initial investigations have identified a married Filipino couple among the missing, believed to have been residing in a residential building that collapsed during the seismic event.

The earthquake, which struck with significant force, has resulted in a staggering loss of life, with Myanmar authorities reporting a death toll exceeding 1,600.

The tremors were felt not only in Myanmar but also in neighboring Thailand, prompting a coordinated response from regional authorities.

Search and rescue teams are working tirelessly to locate survivors and provide assistance to those affected.

In a separate report, the Philippine Embassy in Thailand clarified that no Filipino casualties have been reported within Thai borders.

The DFA is closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with authorities in Myanmar to locate the missing Filipinos. The search continues as emergency responders grapple with the immense scale of the disaster and work to assess the full extent of the damage.

The Philippine government has pledged to provide necessary assistance to the affected families and remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens abroad.
